My journey into woodworking began in high school when I toured the vocational school. As I soaked in all the school has to offer, I was immediately intrigued by the Cabinetmaking program. The thought of crafting something from nothing, was too much to ignore. This program set my foundation, but more importantly, sparked my passion for woodworking. After graduation from the program, I set out to pursue a higher education in woodworking.
From early on I had a specific vision of what I wanted to craft. This led me to the influential turning point of my education and start of my career. in 2006, I began apprenticing under master cabinetmaker Edward Schoen. It was important to me to learn from not only an expert in the field, but from someone who shared my passion. Edward studied under James Krenov, a world-renowned cabinetmaker for his unique philosophy in fine cabinetmaking. He believed in exploring the intimate relationship between the wood, the tools, and the fine details in each piece he crafted. These philosophies were apparent in Edwards work. Not many furnituremakers can say these philosophies were directly instilled in their work.
After years of developing my skills and shaping my design perspective, I felt the desire to branch out on my own. In 2019, Imoshen Studio was born. With my passion and love for woodworking driving every piece I create, along with a subtle Asian influence, “Imoshen Studio” was a perfect fit.
